RE: How to search for tires?

I really don't like these personal attacks. I'm going to report this thread to the moderator.Yeah, flaming used to be something that wasn't tolerated, now, it seems there's not an issue with personal attacks. The increasingly vitriolic attacks serve no purpose, but are completely uncontrolled. Seems like some people can't post without directly attacking the person they disagree with. Maybe they need to move them all to "Around the Campfire", that'll get 'em shut down pretty quickly. :)

RE: How to search for tires?

Dirtdog said "Nah, it was a simple objective question, that resulted in you saying you haven’t done it because a shop told you a long time ago it didn’t need to be done. And you haven’t had issues. So same question, asked a different way. If you now or or a while have felt certain that balancing highway speed light duty tires is not necessary (on your trailer) then why do you not forego tire balancing on your vehicle(s) that weigh similar amount, and drive similar speeds on the same roads?" Bonus points if you provide more of a reason besides “that’s what the shop said.” Don’t worry about the name calling. I know you can’t help yourself so it doesn’t offend me." Poor old obsessive Dirt dog that is anal about any of my comments or post. You are cracked and in need of MH medication. Others here have also said their TT tires did not need balancing based on shop recommendations just like me. Also we and I do not owe you any explanation as to why the shops said no need for balancing. None of your bully business. You and your attitude and many excessive replies are desperate and pathetic. It is obvious you suffer from DS over my username but that is again your hangup as I have never done against you. You are the ultimate forum troll. I am not changing it for you or your few lapdogs. Get a life and go fishing. May save your sanity and soul. May you have a successful MH recovery. Cheers to good fishing and camping. Life is good, all is good.I have no use for the aforementioned obsessive, but you have consistently sidestepped the question why your car/truck tires need balancing, but your trailer tires don't. So just go ahead and put it out there: Why do you bother to balance car/truck tires and not trailer tires? If trailer tires are built so they don't need/require balancing, how are car/vehicle tires built differently?

RE: Carbon ceramic pads question

Yeah, you just can't trust all these liars. FWIW the head wrench turner at any dealer was probably flipping burgers at Micky D's yesterday. Kind of boils down to "You're wrong" vs "All these other people are liars". Hmm, that's a tough one.

RE: How to search for tires?

In 17 years I have placed new Goodyear and Maxxis tires on my TT by shops and myself and no wheel or tire balancing was needed. Never any tire wear or problems during those many years. I do not know so called lug centric balancing. My simple RV life has been great fun and rewarding with no complicated equipment, toys, etc. Plain is good and comfortable. Object focus was camping and not Others have gone dus Cheers to the comfortable good life and 4 RsSo you don't balance your car/truck tires either? As I stated in my comment I was clearly referring to trailer tires KH. Of course my truck tires are balanced at the shop by whatever method they choose. I have had very good service from Walmart, Sams Club and Tires Plus. Cheers to clear reading and good eye glasses. So if your car/truck tires need to be balanced, why wouldn't your trailer tires? Just wondering at the inconsistency.

RE: Carbon ceramic pads question

Yes, the same with tires, in the Midwest or somewhere with flat land where the roads are mostly straight for miles you'll get more miles than in say north central Pennsylvania. But this is about brakes and has involved into some half assed pissing match about factory OEM brake pad life. I was calling someone out for claiming 145K on OEM pads, now there are claims of a quarter of a million miles, or more. ROFLMAO. Perhaps physics are different in the PNW than anywhere else in the country, or the manufacturers ship new vehicles there with some super secret squirrel brake package different than everywhere else? We have 260K, do I hear 300K, 450K, LOL. You folks with those off the wall claims of 250K must also get twice the tire wear and double the fuel mileage too.Or perhaps you're wrong? When most of the evidence points that way...

RE: How to search for tires?

5 POUNDS of weight on each wheel? Let's try 5 ounces!Yeah, that was an exaggeration, but it was a lot, measured ins square inches, probably 4X6. I took 'em all off before I put them on the trailer. Just couldn't believe it was right. LOL

RE: How to search for tires?

You basically can't find anyone who does lug-centric, and it's hard to find anyone who knows what it is. The balance based on the center hole, like capriracer says, and all you can do is hope those brake hubs have the lugs positioned concentric to the center. I wonder if anyone has ever checked. And I honestly have my doubts.

RE: How to search for tires?

Okay, I watched, most, of the video on balancing tires, and no where does he mention that many, perhaps most, trailer wheels are lug-centric, and almost no one will balance lug-centric wheels. I asked a guy at the tire dealer why they don't balance lug-centric wheels and he said they do. But they balance off the center which he said works fine. But if the wheel is balanced hub-centric, but mounts lug-centric, how is that fine? He just kept saying it's not a problem. In theory, the wheels are machined using the center hole as center - and that includes the lug holes. So using the center hole is nearly the same as using the lugs for lug centric wheels. Besides, there is a tolerance for balancing - which is why they have wheel weights in increments. The difference in balancing using incremental wheel weights is imperceptible to the user. And since trailers aren't designed to be ridden in, close enough is good enough!I can see the idea, but my issue isn't with the tires/wheels, it's with the drums that the tires/wheels mount to. How precisely are they positioned in relation to the center ring? Nothing about those drums says "precision". :)

RE: How to search for tires?

Well, the wheels on my last trailer were "balanced" by the local guy who does all my tire work, and using a regular tire balancing machine had about 5 lbs. of wheel weights on each tire. So I'm a bit skeptical about how well the trailer tires balance using the hub centric system. I decided "Screw it" when I installed the new Sailuns, and tried out the Centramatic dynamic balancing ring. Does it work? Haven't the foggiest, but nothing has bounced off and the tires look okay.

RE: Is Facebook killing this site?

I have slowed down reading the forum, and mostly read other forums a lot more. There are couple of posters on here who can't post without being condescending, rude, simplistic, and just plain mean-spirited. Life's too short to keep thinking "What a pair of jerks". Heck, they post even if they don't really have anything to say except to denigrate other posters. This forum used to pull that type of poster up pretty short, but not so much anymore. Maybe they're part of why the forum membership is dropping: no one likes being told how stupid they are for posting such tripe.

RE: Can I Close My Low Point Drain?

On some models/brands certain configurations allow the overflow drain to act as a siphon, which could certainly be annoying. Sounds like yours was just draining, like it supposed to. The overflow will not have a valve unless you add one, like some have done with the siphoning effect. But you can cause the tank to explode if you don't open the valve when filling the tank. Not a good thing, and why some people are hesitant to add the valve. On Edit: In error, I referred to the "low point drain" when I should have been referring to the "overflow drain". Sorry about that.

Basically much of the internet is just another way of killing time. You don't DO anything, you just watch, no participation, no activity, just passive observation.

RE: Stabilizer jacks at home?

Are you speaking of the rear jacks? I don't see any sense in it myself if you're not occupying the trailer. And I have hydraulic jacks so I prefer not having the cylinders exposed to the elements. But, really, it's mostly personal preference.
